Why does the rain radar display change after two hours?

Different data sources are used for the precipitation display in the rain radar.

For the first two hours, the display is based on current radar data. This shows precipitation captured in real time and its short-term development. From the third hour onwards, calculated forecast data from numerical weather models is displayed.

When switching from radar data to model-based forecasting, the display can change noticeably. Rain or thunderstorm areas can, for example, change their position, shape or intensity, or may no longer be shown in the further forecast.

This transition between the different data sources is technically necessary and does not represent a display error. As uncertainty increases with longer forecast periods, the further development can also change.
